The new motorway covers 153 kilometres between the plain of Lleida, the central regions of Catalonia and Girona. The relief road represents an improvement in safety and traffic on a road that records between 8,000 and 17,000 vehicles a day, a quarter of which are heavy vehicles.

The road was opened on Friday 4 January and the attending personalities included the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Artur Mas; the following attended from COMSA EMTE: Jordi Miarnau Banús, honorary president; Josep Miarnau, CEO; Jaime Mulet, CEO of Infrastructure; Jordi Fontanet, Director of Civil Works; and Santiago Arderiu, Director of Property Concessions and Parking.

The relief road work has had a budget of 752.4 million euros, which will be financed through the system of public works concession. The concession awarded to CEDINSA includes the performance of the work and infrastructure management and maintenance for a period of 33 years.
