IAM4RAIL, intelligent maintenance of railway infrastructures

FP3-IAM4RAIL (Intelligent Asset Management for Railways) is one of the flagship projects of Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (ERJU), the European association that drives research and innovation in the rail sector.

This project, with a total investment of €106 million, focuses on the smart management of railway assets through advanced digital technologies and smart maintenance. It aims to reduce the life-cycle costs of assets, extend their useful life and improve their reliability, availability and capacity.

COMSA, one of the project partners, participates in of one of the seven project demonstrators. Thus, with the supervision of ADIF and the support of CIMNE and WorldSensing, it has installed monitoring devices, consisting of inclinometers and accelerometers, on the Viaduct over the Arroyo de las Huertas de Mateo (Cuenca) on the Madrid-Valencia high-speed line.

This system continuously collects data and allows remote access. The data will be analyzed to detect potential structural damage and monitor the infrastructure’s condition over time. Infrastructure innovation is key to a safer and more sustainable railway future.

Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (ERJU), established under the Horizon Europe programme (2020-2027), aims to create a sustainable, interoperable European rail network that aligns with the European Green Deal and the Intelligent and Sustainable Mobility Strategy.
