COMSA has completed the improvement and extension works of the Cabrianes bridge, in the Bages region, a project in which the BIM methodology has been implemented during the monitoring and development of the project.
Tuesday 5 October, the bridge, located over the Llobregat River on the B-430 road, was put into service. The project consisted of improving and widening the bridge, which has gone from 6 metres wide to the current 12 metres, with two two-way traffic lanes and a pavement for pedestrians. The most important aspect of this work has been the construction of a new deck supported by a new central arch. The bridge’s infrastructure has also been completely refurbished due to the ageing of the materials and lack of maintenance.
The works will improve the level of service and favour safety and fluidity in driving, as well as the mobility of pedestrians and cyclists.
Our methodology
COMSA Corporación has been promoting the implementation of BIM methodology since 2014, when it created a multidisciplinary team dedicated entirely to the development and implementation of BIM in the organisation. The group is committed to continuous improvement in the construction process by implementing an innovative project management model that creates added value in each of the works.
COMSA has carried out a model of pre-existing land and structure and a project model for the extension of the structure and accesses to it. Both have been developed using specific bim software for linear works, which has made it possible to guarantee coordination between the layout and geometry of the structure. The models have been provided with metadata according to the client’s requirements, including for the first time the information referring to the Inventory of Structures of the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Subdirectorate General for Road Exploitation, making digital management of the information possible.
Thus, by means of a federated model in openBIM format, the client has been able to know the monthly progress of the works on site without the need to travel to the field.
This project has highlighted the pillars of the BIM methodology for the company: transparency, collaboration and communication, in order to provide the best service to our client.
