SNCF Geodis, transport and logistics branch of the French national railway company, has officially become a shareholder at COMSA Rail Transport. The European Competition Authority has authorized the operation by which the French company has acquired a 25% stake in the railway company COMSA EMTE.
Miquel Llevat, who is a general director at the COMSA EMTE group, will be the president of the company and Philippe Bihouix, international railway activities manager at SNCF Geodis, will take over the vice presidency. The new governing body of COMSA Rail Transport is completed with the directors Ignacio Barrenechea, transport and railway equipment manager at COMSA EMTE and Roman Oleart. The managing director of COMSA Rail Transport is still Pau Filella.
The alliance between COMSA Rail Transport and SNCF Geodis is reinforced with a collaboration agreement between the two companies designed to enhance the development of rail freight traffic between France, Central Europe and the whole of the Iberian Peninsula. COMSA Rail Transport and SNCF FRET undertake to develop international relations that allow growth on both sides of the Pyrenees, exploiting the potential of rail transport, extension of the international gauge and new infrastructure in the Mediterranean Corridor between Algeciras and Perpignan
From a commercial point of view, therefore, COMSA Rail Transport is joining the SNCF international railway network, which has activities in Germany, Benelux, Italy and Romania, among other countries, where it operates through the CAPTRAIN brand.
The development of this traffic will also be supported by VIIA, the SNCF Geodis rail motorway business, which plans to extend the Bettembourg (Luxembourg) – le Boulou (Perpignan) connection to Spain once the infrastructure exists.
