The groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday for Alstom’s new workshop, which will be key to the maintenance of the new electric trains of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, which will connect the centre of Barcelona with El Prat Airport. The project, which is being developed and executed by COMSA, includes the construction of the workshop and facilities, as well as the track and catenary.
Located in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, the new workshop will occupy a surface area of 3,500 m² and will have three maintenance tracks, auxiliary workshops, a warehouse, spaces for workers and project offices.
The project will be developed over a total area of 12 hectares, where a road access, an access railway track, a railway yard, the workshop and the segregation of accesses to the factory will be built. In addition, other important actions will be carried out, such as the installation of a third auxiliary track with wheel turning equipment, a train washing tunnel and a new traction substation that will feed the catenary of the new sections of track.
