04/11/2018 – Grup Peralada has awarded a contract to COMSA Corporación to build, using the BIM (Building Information Modelling) method, its new winery located next to the emblematic medieval castle in the city of Peralada, in the province of Girona.
COMSA, the construction company in the group, will build 18,200 square metres that will be mainly destined to making and processing wine. In this sense, the installations will be capable of receiving nearly three million kilograms of grape for producing two million litres of wine and subsequently house 2.3 million bottles. Also, the new winery will include areas for promoting wine culture and sales to the end customer. The building is an architectural challenge since its surface area is a completely open-concept design.
The new winery will incorporate the BIM model in its execution, a technology implemented in other COMSA construction projects such as the transformation of the Paranimf of the Industrial School of Barcelona into a Convention Centre and the future Barcelona Football Club’s Johan Cruyff Stadium, among others. This method allows creating a multi-dimensional display of the structure for the purpose of facilitating decision making and reducing costs. In this regard, during the construction phase of the new winery, BIM will guarantee the works are coordinated through a detailed planning of the different phases and an analysis of possible incidents and alternatives; it will facilitate the monitoring of the construction progress and a control of the budget expenditure. Likewise, BIM will also simplify the subsequent maintenance on the equipment and when appropriate, the refurbishing of the structure since all the information is integrated in the system.
The new Castell de Peralada winery will be managed by company ACTIO Project and is designed by the reputable architecture firm RCR, comprised of Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramón Vilalta. It will begin operations in the year 2020 and its intent is to be the first in Europe to receive the environmental and energy certification LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a prestigious international standard developed by the US Green Building Council, which certifies the sustainability and high efficiency of the design and the construction of the structure.
This contract is added to the extensive portfolio of singular buildings that COMSA has designed and executed in recent years. Among these we have Hotel W of Barcelona, the Gran Canaria Arena Pavilion of Las Palmas, the Cultural Centre of Lugano (Switzerland) and the Memory and Human Rights Museum of Santiago de Chile, etc. For the wine sector, the construction company has built the Ferrer&Bobet winery, located in Falset (Tarragona) and the Wine Promotion Centre with D.O. Ribera del Duero in the city of Roa del Duero (Burgos).
