GMF, the COMSA Corporación company specialised in the maintenance of railway rolling stock, has been awarded the contract by Pecovasa – a subsidiary of Renfe Mercancías – for the adaptation of one hundred PMA31 type carriages. This project is partially financed by European Next Generation funds.
The work consists of renovating PMA31 wagons, manufactured between 2000 and 2001, to optimise their transport capacity by adapting them to current carriage models. In addition, considering that these are double-decker wagons, the lower deck will be transformed, and the ends of the upper deck will be modified, which will be designed to be foldable, thus facilitating the loading and unloading of vehicles.
This award highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability, as the existing wagons will be reconverted and adapted to the new needs, preventing them from being scrapped. The transformation of these wagons into new car carriers not only optimises the railway fleet but also contributes to the reduction of waste and the use of materials, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
