COMSA Corporación has expanded its activity in Uruguay with new infrastructure and engineering contracts. The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in the country has awarded COMSA, the group’s construction company, the remodelling work on a 327 kilometre section of railway line between the towns of Piedra Sola and Salto Grande, a branch line mainly used for freight. This is the first railway contract awarded to the company in the country.
Worth more than 94 million euros, the modernization work will include the installation of 562,000 metres of rails, 136,000 wooden sleepers, more than 100,000 cubic metres of ballast, as well as work related to alignment and mechanized levelling and reinforcement of bridges.
Through this contract, the Uruguayan government is trusting COMSA’s century-long rail experience and, meanwhile, the company is also expanding its presence in Latin America, where it has already established activity in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Peru. Among the most emblematic works in these countries are the rehabilitation and maintenance of Line 12 of Mexico City’s Metro, the construction of the Chascomús bypass in Argentina and the rail duplication between Boavista and Canguera in Brazil.
New Bio&Pharma contract
At the same time, COMSA Industrial, the engineering branch of COMSA Corporación, is extending its Bio&Pharma business in Uruguay. The company has been awarded the expansion of a pharmaceutical production area for MegaPharma in Montevideo.
The engineering company will carry out the project, valued at over 4 million euros, in the form of a turnkey contract, as it includes the supply, installation, commissioning and validation of clean rooms and air conditioning equipment, along with the expansion of the purified water and pure steam distribution systems. MegaPharma is thus renewing its confidence in the high specialization of COMSA Industrial in projects for the industry after having built the main plant for the pharmaceutical company in Uruguay in 2014.
