EMTE has been awarded the supply and maintenance of electrical and telecom installations at the CERN facilities in France and Switzerland

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has renewed its business relationship with EMTE through three new three-year contracts, renewable for four more years, for the supply and maintenance of Electrical and Telecommunications Installations at their headquarters in Prevessin (France) and Meyrin (Switzerland).

Firstly, EMTE will construct electrical installations at CERN, including the underground areas of the accelerators, more than 30 kilometres in length, situated on both sides of the border. The engineering company will carry out work involving low voltage supplies, communications and weak signal systems, pilot testing and subsequent commissioning.

Valued at 15.5 million euros, this contract is the result of a previous contract partially awarded to EMTE for the refurbishment of the electrical and communications installations in the particle accelerator and its ancillary buildings. Now that this has been completed, the organization has decided to renew its relationship with the Spanish engineering company, this time exclusively.

Secondly, CERN has also commissioned EMTE for the maintenance of its electrical installations. Amounting to a total of 4.1 million euros, the work will include monitoring and preventive and corrective maintenance of the electrical system for all the buildings and underground areas.

Finally, it has also awarded the Spanish engineering company the contract for first response support for the Networks and Telecommunications service of the organization, with a value of €2.5M. According to Guillermo Lorenzo, director general of EMTE, “these three new contracts extend our links with CERN, for which we have been working since early 2012, and reaffirm its confidence in our company as a leading supplier for its engineering needs.”

International projection

The engineering company of the COMSA EMTE group continues to increase its presence abroad with new projects in its portfolio. In this regard, it was recently awarded a contract for the refurbishment of the electrical installations of the municipal theatre in Basel (Switzerland), the construction of a new substation and its associated transmission line in the region of Moyococha (Peru), the second that it has constructed in this South American country, as well as turnkey execution of a pharmaceutical plant for the company Megapharma in Uruguay.

In addition to its expertise in electromechanical and industrial installations, power distribution and solutions for the biopharmaceutical sector, EMTE covers the main market niches of the engineering sector, such as power generation, electrification and rail systems, and telecommunications.
