COMSA Industrial, in a joint venture with FCC Industrial, has been awarded an important project that includes the execution of the electrical infrastructure for the connection of ships to land at the Cos Nou docks of the Port of Mahón, in Menorca.
This action, financed by European Next Generation funds within the framework of the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, will enable the port to provide clean alternative fuels, as the availability of electricity in the installations will contribute to reducing the environmental impact.
The works include the installation of the OPS (Onshore Power Supply) system which allows the energy generated on board the ships to be replaced by energy from the onshore grid. This will reduce polluting emissions, as well as noise and vibrations caused by the engines, which will have a positive impact both on the environment and on the quality of life of the people living in the area.
The system will also contribute to reducing emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOX), fine particulate matter (PM), volatile organic compounds (VOC), carbon dioxide (CO2) and ozone depleting substances in the port.
