Beginning of the second phase of the works on the Guadalajara-Marchamalo Railway Terminal

This coming September, the second phase of the works on the Guadalajara-Marchamalo Railway Terminal will begin, which represents the completion of one of the most important railway infrastructures in recent years.

With the capacity to canalise the main national and international flows of freight due to its proximity to Madrid and its location in the Henares corridor, it will be the main ‘dry port’ with Hub status in the centre of the peninsula.

COMSA, in a joint venture with GICSA Empresa Constructora and Arnó (Benito Arnó e Hijos, S.A.U.) will carry out the main actions in this second phase, which are, on the one hand, the installation of 19 turnouts that will allow all movements and manoeuvres, the construction of 3 load and unload tracks for trains of up to 750 metres in length and 3 dispatch and reception tracks also for trains of up to 750 metres in length. In addition, the paving of 100,000 m² for the operational and goods storage area and the construction of a 100 m² service building will also be carried out. In total, 7,750 metres of Iberian gauge track will be built. A multifunctional space, specialised in logistics, distribution, and transformation functions with all the equipment and facilities to complement the main activity, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2024.

The Guadalajara-Marchamalo Port Tarragona Railway Terminal will be connected to La Boella, its twin terminal located inside the Port of Tarragona, reinforcing the union, connection, and capacity of the Henares Corridor with the “Mediterranean Corridor”, and facilitating the movement of freight between the Peninsula and the rest of the European continent.
