The Basque railway management company Trenbide Sarea has awarded the construction work for the new high speed Atotxa station in Donosti to the JV formed by COMSA, Moyua and Cycasa. The project, which will have a duration of 42 months, consists of the restructuring of the current North Station to create a new terminal for rail traffic integrated into the Tabakalera cityscape. The building’s façade will be maintained whilst its interior will be renovated and two new floors built. The works include the remodelling of the platform area to create two platforms for suburban trains and three platforms for long distance and high speed trains. The project also includes the adaptation of the underground pass to Egia and the construction of a large 5,700m2 square above the tracks which will connect with the Tabakalera building. The new Atotxa station, the first of the three terminals of the Basque Y to be built in the territory, will improve the mobility of the inhabitants of Donosti and facilitate the connection between the different means of transport: suburban trains, high speed trains and buses.
