World Health Day (7th April)
One of the values of COMSA Corporación is its human team, one of its main assets, which allows it to face any challenge when executing projects with rigour and quality. Therefore, the company works to ensure the well-being of all the people who make up the company, guaranteeing optimum health and safety conditions in all its activities.
Musculoskeletal disorders are the biggest cause of sick leave related to working conditions in Spain, and although their origin is not always recognised at work, they translate into over 39 million days of sick leave due to temporary incapacity.
On the occasion of World Health Day, and in line with SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being, it is worth highlighting the good results obtained by COMSA Corporación following the implementation of the campaign “Don’t turn a blind eye to over-exertions”, as part of the project “Detection and Prevention of Over-exertions”, for the reduction of accident rates at work.
The Action Plan drawn up by the company is based on an initial diagnosis on the basis of medical examinations carried out by specialists in Occupational Medicine. To this end, they have focused on the main risk groups identified, as well as on ergonomic analyses carried out using pioneering techniques based on the measurement of physical load by means of intelligent suits – equipped with sensors capable of obtaining the values of inter-discal compression of the spine – for those jobs and working conditions with the greatest exposure to risk.
On the basis of the information obtained, practical postural exercise sessions have been designed to improve flexibility and muscle tone, and work equipment has been modernised to minimise ergonomic risks. The project had a high participation rate of close to 82% in the participating centres, maintenance of the Madrid Metro and maintenance of ADIF in Asturias.
This initiative has been very well received by the participants and has meant for COMSA Corporación a 20% reduction in the average rate of accidents due to over-exertion in 2018, compared to 2016.
In addition, the benefits of ergonomic posture in the workplace have been circulated among the rest of the company’s employees, and the campaign has also been disseminated to the main customers to promote replication and thus help reduce the number of accidents in the sector.
