COMSA Corporación grows in Colombia with new construction and engineering contracts

11/15/2018 – COMSA Corporación continues its trend of exporting to Latin American markets with a high-demand for communication networks. Along these lines, the group has recently increased its contracts portfolio in Colombia with the addition of new infrastructures and industrial engineering projects for a combined value of 80 million Euros.

On the one hand, COMSA and Nortúnel, a subsidiary of the group specialised in underground roads and railway construction projects, will jointly build the Amagá tunnel of the Pacifico 1 motorway. Specifically, they will excavate and sustain a section comprised of two tubes measuring 3.5 kilometres long with an average slope of 2.94%, two lanes measuring 3.65 metres each for the circulation of vehicles with their respective shoulders and two side-walks for maintenance tasks and emergencies. The project is valued at 65.2 million Euros. The Pacifico 1 motorway, which will begin operating in 2020, will have a length of 49 kilometres and will help communicate the department of Antioquia with the south-eastern part of the country.

On the other hand, the engineering company of the group, COMSA Industrial, has been awarded two Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) contracts in the Bogotá Villavicencio Corridor. Firstly, the company will design, install and commission the transit control networks, radiocommunications and signalling of a 24-kilometre section of road and, moreover, the conservation of these installations throughout the 86 kilometres that make up the totality of the road. This last project includes different kinds of maintenance works: corrective, predictive based on operational analysis and real time monitoring and preventive with the aim of improving the productivity of the systems, reduce preservation costs and extend its service life. Both contracts, which will be carried out by a Joint Venture with a global amount for COMSA Industrial of 15.7 million Euros, is in addition to the ongoing contract by the engineering for supplying electro-mechanical equipment and transport intelligent systems for the la Linea tunnel in the Central Mountain Range.

Also, COMSA Industrial has exported to Colombia its know-how regarding the construction and maintenance of telecommunications networks and infrastructures of operators, a sector they have been working in for more than 25 years in Spain. Along these lines, Nokia has recently awarded the company a contract for deploying and renewing the Claro network throughout the entire country.

Through these contracts, COMSA Corporación consolidates its presence in Colombia through the internationalisation of its main business lines (Infrastructures and industrial engineering) with the aim of providing turnkey services that include all the construction phases for the equipment and their subsequent maintenance, and for supplying, installing and commissioning the installations and associated systems.
