09/01/2017 – Global Omnium has reached an agreement with COMSA Corporación for the purchase of 50% of the shares of the company COMSA Medio Ambiente in Aigües de Catalunya, thus achieving 100% of the shareholding.
This agreement respects the continuity of the respective strategic plans of both companies. As a result, COMSA Corporation advances its strategy of concentrating on the infrastructure and engineering sector and maintains its position as one of the principle Catalan construction companies. For its part, Global Omnium continues its strategy of consolidation and growth in the sector of the Integral Water Cycle in Catalonia.
Aigües de Catalunya has been providing services linked to the integral water cycle in Catalonia for just over two decades. The objective of Global Omnium, now owner of 100% of the shares of Aigües de Catalunya, will be to continue providing an impeccable service to its customers, thus ensuring the continuity of the company and all its jobs.
Aigües de Catalunya serves more than 400,000 customers throughout the Catalan territory, managing drinking water concessions, treatment plants and irrigation communities. Among the most important municipalities where it operates are Martorell, Tortosa, San Carles de la Ràpita, Altafulla, Palafrugell, Sant Antoni de Vilamajor and Bellpuig.
Most recent contracts awarded to Aigües de Catalunya
At the end of last year, the Catalan Water Agency awarded Aigües de Catalunya the contract for the management and maintenance of all waste water treatment plants in the regions of Garrigues, Noguera, Pallars Jussà and Pallars Sobirà, which has strengthened the strategic position of the company in the sector of sanitation and water treatment in Catalonia.
In the northernmost regions, the Provincial Council of Girona awarded a major contract for specialised services, which means working on an ongoing basis with more than 60 municipalities that manage the service directly, analysing the quality of the water supplied and advising them on all issues relating to the potable water supply.
Recently, Aigües de Catalunya has also obtained the water and sewerage service concession for the municipality of Begur.
