Termosolar Borges (Les Borges Blanques, Lleida), the world’s first power plant to combine thermoelectrical energy and biomass energy, which will be fully operative in January 2013, closed a loan agreement yesterday by means of a “Project finance” for a total of 99 million euros over 19 years with a group of financial entities lead by CaixaBank together with Banc de Sabadell, BBVA, Instituto de Crédito Ofical (ICO), BBVA, Institut Català de Finances (ICF) and Banesto.
The operation has required the coordinated efforts of the two partners in this project, Abantia and Comsa Emte, together with the seven financial entities. This will ensure the continuity of the project that will generate electrical power equal to the average consumption of over 27,000 homes, and which will represent an annual saving of 24,500 tones of CO2.
The project is currently generating approximately 180 jobs, which, during the operating period will result in 30 direct jobs and 50 indirect jobs.
Construction is continuing at a fast pace with 50% of the solar field already installed and now construction on the buildings in the power block is underway. The project has the singularity of having a biomass unit that will permit the production of power during the night for most of the year.
